Removal of a dead 30” DBH Bur Oak

Type of Project: Removal of a dead 30” DBH Bur Oak

Location of Project: Minneapolis, MN

Project Description:

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, Pro Tree safely removed a 30-inch diameter bur oak that had died from a combination of Two-Lined Chestnut Borer infestation and environmental stress. The tree was positioned on up  20-foot hill, with its canopy extending over two roofs, a retaining wall, and a sidewalk—making this a technically complex urban removal requiring precision planning and execution.

Project Overview

While the homeowner successfully treated and preserved several other oaks on the property, this tree could not be saved. Two-Lined Chestnut Borer is an insect that targets already stressed oak trees, feeding beneath the bark and disrupting nutrient flow. Once structural decline begins, removal becomes essential for safety and to protect nearby healthy trees.

The Result

This project highlights Pro Tree’s ability to manage complex urban removals where access, safety, and precision are critical. By combining expertise, the right equipment, and meticulous planning, our team delivered a seamless operation that restored safety while respecting the surrounding landscape.
